There’s a space in the home that’s often the source of both a little chaos and a lot of joy: the pantry. It’s where we stash the snacks, the ingredients for family dinners, and sometimes… those mystery cans we swear we were saving for a recipe we never actually made.
As a professional organizer, the pantry has always been one of my favorite spaces to transform. There’s just something so satisfying about turning messy shelves into a functional, beautiful system that makes daily life smoother. I love seeing the look on a client’s face when they realize they can actually see everything they have — and that their mornings (and meal prep!) just got a whole lot easier.
Over the years, I’ve had the honor of helping over 250 clients reclaim their spaces — resulting in more than 1,000 organized spaces and over 10,000 items donated. And through it all, I’ve learned that no two pantries are ever the same. Each one tells its own story — about the family, their routines, and the way they live.
Today, I’m sharing five of my favorite real-life pantry makeovers — each one with its own set of challenges, transformations, and small wins that made a big difference.
#5 The “No Food-Waste” Pantry
The Problem & The “Why”: This pantry had so much potential, but the deep, tall shelves were working against the family instead of for them. It was one of those setups where items would disappear into the back, only to be rediscovered years later — usually expired. The client’s biggest “why” was powerful: she wanted to stop wasting food and start saving money on groceries each week.

That goal hit home for me, because so many families face the same frustration — spending money on food that never gets used simply because they can’t see what they have. During the cleanout, we filled three giant garbage bags with expired food… and that was the wake-up moment for everyone involved.
Unique Challenges: This project definitely had its quirks — and a few surprises!
The Sneaky Dog: Their sweet pup was on a strict allergy diet, but she was determined to sneak snacks whenever she could. That meant everything edible needed to be stored higher up, well out of reach.
The Flour Situation: Let’s just say, I’ve seen my fair share of messes—but this one was memorable. One of the family members had left a bag of flour open, and when I went to move it, the bag gave way. Flour erupted everywhere, coating the lower shelves. Worse, as I backed away, I left a perfect trail of dusty white footprints throughout the pantry, proving exactly how wide the mess had traveled!
The Corner Conundrum: The deep corner shelving was tricky, but we solved it with turntables to make everything visible and easy to grab — no more digging and guessing what’s back there.

Strategy and The Biggest Wins: We started by creating very specific zones: one for beverages, one for healthy adult snacks, and one for kid-friendly grab-and-go options. When we spread everything out across the client’s 12-person dining table, she couldn’t believe how much food had been hiding in those shelves. That “wow” moment never gets old — it’s when the transformation really clicks.
The biggest win here was visibility. Clear bins, smart labeling, and better shelf flow made it so easy for everyone in the family to know exactly where things belonged. It looked beautiful, yes, but it was the ease of use that truly changed their daily routine.
My Favorite Details:
Pullout Snack Drawers: Hands-down my favorite feature. They’re front and center for the kids, so they can easily grab what they need without turning the pantry upside down.
High-Up Storage: I love how we used the higher shelves for pretty, occasional-use items like cake platters — it keeps the space looking polished but functional.
I partnered with my friends at Closet Connections in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, to design and install this system, and they truly brought the vision to life. This pantry now works with the family’s habits, not against them — saving money, reducing waste, and making everyday life so much simpler.
Every pantry I organize tells a different story — and this one was all about purpose. I love seeing how thoughtful systems not only transform a space but also make a real difference in a family’s daily life. Because at the end of the day, it’s never just about pretty shelves — it’s about creating a space that truly works for you.
#4 The “Catch-All” Pantry

The Problem & The “Why”: This pantry came with a couple of big challenges from the start: its location and its lack of efficiency. Being off the living room and a bit removed from the kitchen, it had slowly become a catch-all for anything that didn’t have a proper home. The shelves themselves were another hurdle—tons of unused vertical space and posts that made it tricky to see and grab items.
My client’s “why” was crystal clear: she needed this space to truly support her busy life as a mom of two little ones under three, including a six-month-old. Functionality wasn’t optional—it was essential.
Strategy & Finding Compromise: We transformed this pantry into a multi-purpose family hub. Snacks and larger, rarely used appliances found their home here, keeping the everyday cooking items closer to the main kitchen. We also created a dedicated spot for diapers and wipes, making life with a new baby just a little easier.
One of the trickiest parts? Balancing different visions between the spouses. We worked together to find a compromise that made the space functional and practical for the whole family—everyone walked away happy.

Memorable Moments & Favorite Details: My absolute favorite details highlight the mix of form and function we achieved:
I love the mix of different types of bins, baskets, and jars—the bamboo wood baskets with the white bins and glass jars work so well together.
The Le Creuset red cookware on the shelves truly steals the show, adding a beautiful pop of color.
The biggest win? Seeing the husband completely on board when he saw the final pantry and hearing the client say it had become her favorite room in the house. That’s what makes all the planning and problem-solving worth it.

I loved partnering with my friends at Closet Connections in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, to bring this vision to life. Every detail was carefully considered to help this pantry truly work for the family’s daily routines—because when function meets style, even the busiest families can feel a little more organized (and a lot more joyful).
Every project reminds me that organization is never one-size-fits-all — it’s about creating spaces that truly support the stage of life you’re in. This pantry was designed with love and intention, and the end result was a space that made everyday life feel smoother, simpler, and a little more joyful.
#3 The "Pro's Overdue" Pantry: A Personal Makeover
Even a professional organizer can have a pantry that desperately needs some love!

The Problem & The "Why": My biggest frustration? Deep shelves that were spaced way too far apart, leaving a ton of unused vertical space. I had tried all sorts of organizing products over the years, but nothing really maximized the area. After helping so many clients create beautiful, functional pantries, I realized it was finally time for my own pantry glow-up — and honestly, it was way overdue!
Strategy: Less is More: My approach was simple: less is more. We had way too much food that never got used, so I shifted to an open concept with clearly defined zones for our key ingredients and favorite snacks. Now we only stock what we actually eat, with a small section reserved for overflow.

Key Details & Functionality: Even though it’s just my husband and me, we’re big bulk shoppers on certain items. To keep things looking neat, I added cabinet doors on one section — hands down my favorite detail — so overstock items could hide out of sight. Pullout wire drawers now give onions and potatoes a dedicated, well-ventilated home.
The biggest win? Adjustable shelves. Being able to see everything at a glance means no more digging and no more tossing expired food every season — what a relief!
The Finishing Touches: I loved partnering with my friends at Closet Connections in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, to design and install this space. The wood wicker bins and clear jars added another layer of polish, making the pantry feel both functional and beautiful.
The one tricky decision? Whether or not to put the door back on. I went doorless — the space is just too pretty to hide!
This pantry is now a total showstopper and honestly one of my favorite spots in the house. Having it professionally photographed for Closet Connection’s portfolio was such a fun moment, and I feel energized and inspired to tackle my closet and laundry room next!
#2 The "Dreamy Vision" Pantry

The Problem & The “Why”: This large walk-in pantry came with a unique design challenge: a door with beautiful glass panes meant the contents were always on display. The client’s goal was simple yet powerful—she wanted a pantry that was not only completely organized but also visually perfect. The built-in shelves couldn’t be adjusted, so every decision had to be intentional. My job was to take her vision and turn it into a functional reality for her family.
The Organizing Strategy: Since the shelving was fixed, we carefully mapped out exactly where each category of items would live. We combined bins, baskets, and glass jars in a way that balanced style with function. The bamboo bins added a refined touch to a space that could easily feel chaotic without a thoughtful plan. Every container and placement had a purpose, making it easier to find what you need and keep things looking tidy.

Key Challenges & Memorable Moments: There were a few curveballs along the way:
The Fire Extinguisher: A necessary item, but not exactly visually friendly. We had to creatively integrate it so it blended with the beautiful containers.
Collection Habits: We found a ton of reusable bags—so many that my client and I had a good laugh while paring them down to what she actually uses.
The Biggest Win & Favorite Detail: Walking into the finished pantry and seeing my client’s vision fully realized was the best part. Everything had its home, every item was accessible, and the family could see exactly where things belonged. The joy on her face—pure delight—made all the planning and hard work worthwhile.

My personal favorite detail? The QR code labels are on decanted items like pasta, oatmeal, and pancake mix. With a quick scan, my client knows exactly how to prepare these items. It’s functional, fun, and adds that little “wow” factor to everyday life.
This pantry was all about turning a beautiful vision into a space that actually works every day. I love seeing how thoughtful organization can make life feel smoother, more intuitive, and yes—a little more magical in the daily chaos of family life.
#1 The "New Beginnings" Pantry

The Problem & The “Why”: Our clients had just moved into their brand-new, beautifully built home and were faced with a stunning, spacious pantry—a true blank slate. The challenge?
This pantry was completely different, and much bigger, than their previous one, leaving them overwhelmed and unsure where to begin. Their “why” was simple: to make the pantry functional right away and give everything a home after a big, stressful move.
This was one of the largest pantries I’ve worked in to date, featuring a gorgeous blue color, a full U-shaped counter with hidden storage below, and open shelving above for easy access.
The Organizing Strategy: Creating clear, designated zones was absolutely key to conquering this massive space. This wasn’t just a food pantry—it was designed to function as a multi-purpose hub for the family. We established areas for beverages, a full coffee station, overflow appliances, extra dishes, and (of course) the kids’ snacks.

While beautiful, the space’s size and layout came with challenges. Deep cabinets can easily become black holes, and open shelving can look cluttered without careful planning. We focused on finding storage solutions that supported these hard-to-reach areas while keeping the overall aesthetic clean and cohesive.
Biggest Wins & Favorite Details: A huge win—and a top priority for the clients—was decanting and unboxing as many of the kids’ snacks as possible. Empty boxes pile up fast, and making snacks visible not only saved space but made it easy for the kids to grab what they wanted independently.
One of my favorite moments was seeing it all come together—the combination of materials, the thoughtful product choices, and the organization transforming that bold blue space. The client loved seeing her brand-new pantry come to life, and the kids were thrilled to have a system that worked for them from day one.

My favorite detail? The blend of materials. Lazy Susans, metal baskets, wood bins, glass jars, and clear acrylics all came together seamlessly, creating a balanced look that felt warm, intentional, and functional.
Turning a blank pantry into a space that truly works for a family makes my heart so happy. Every item has a home, routines are easier, and the space just feels… right.
